What is the personality and temperament of a Bernedoodle?
Bernedoodles blend the silly, loyal, "teddy bear" nature of the Bernese Mountain Dog with the cleverness of the Poodle. They are gentle, affectionate, fiercely loyal to their family, and love to cuddle!
Do Bernedoodles shed as much as a Bernese Mountain Dog?
No! Purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs shed heavily, but crossbreeding with a Poodle drastically reduces shedding. F1B and Multigen Bernedoodles are low-to-non-shedding and hypoallergenic.
Are Bernedoodles stubborn during training?
Bernedoodles inherit high intelligence from the Poodle, but occasionally pick up a touch of Bernese stubbornness as puppies! Consistent, positive reinforcement training works best to bring out their eager-to-please side.
How much exercise does a Bernedoodle require?
Bernedoodles enjoy a balanced lifestyle—they love moderate outdoor play, hikes, and games, but are equally happy lounging on the couch for snuggles afterward! About 30–45 minutes of daily activity is ideal.
What coat colors do Bernedoodles come in?
Bernedoodles are famous for their beautiful coat patterns! The most popular is the traditional Tricolor (Black, White, and Rust/Tan), but they also come in Sable, Phantom, Merlin, and Tuxedo patterns.
How often do Bernedoodles need grooming?
Due to their thick, wavy or curly coats, Bernedoodles need to be brushed 2–3 times a week to prevent matting. Professional grooming is recommended every 8–10 weeks.
Are Bernedoodles good with kids and other family pets?
Yes! Bernedoodles are known as gentle giants. Their patient, affectionate nature makes them exceptionally great with young kids and soft-natured around other home pets.
What is the lifespan of a Bernedoodle compared to a purebred Bernese?
Purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs unfortunately have shorter lifespans (6–8 years). However, thanks to "hybrid vigor" from Poodle genetics, Bernedoodles typically live much longer—12 to 15 years (especially Mini and Medium sizes)!
